Desigual Rises as Vuitton Divests

Spanish retail fashion juggernaut Desigual—known for its bright and clashing prints—has reported profits of 66 million euros in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 48 percent on the same period in 2013. The rise in profits is reportedly due to its aggressive international expansion in Latin America and Asia, along with the diversification of its product range as the retailer has added shoes, sportswear and textiles to its longstanding stable of casual clothing.

Gareth Pugh, known for his futuristic costume-like garments and technical textiles, is taking his Paris Fashion Week show to New York this season. The event will represent the avant-garde British designer’s New York debut, which he says will feature an immersive live performance including dance.

After a recent leak of nude photos that saw more than 100 pictures of female celebrities uploaded to the web, Apple has released a statement claiming it has fixed the security breach that allowed a hacker to access private iCloud accounts and share photos of celebrities including actress Jennifer Lawrence, model Kate Upton, and singers Ariana Grande and Rihanna.

Fashion innovator Vivienne Westwood has been inducted into the Scottish Fashion Awards Hall of Fame at its 9th Annual Awards Ceremony, which honors notable Scottish contributions to the industry. Westwood has an enduring fascination with Scottish textiles, and uses Scottish tartan in new and dynamic fashion to the point where the pattern has become a synonymous visual motif of her label.

LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the French multinational luxury goods conglomerate, agreed to relinquish a 23 percent stake in Hermès International after coming under pressure from its smaller rival in the French luxury apparel industry. The $7.5 billion in Hermès stock will be distributed to LVMH shareholders by December 20.
